Lawn Aerator Shoes For A Healthy Lawn
Aerate As You Walk
Aerate your lawn simply by walking on it with a set of lawn aerator shoes. Aerating your lawn will revitalize it, allowing it to grow greener and healthier.
These shoes or sandals will have a series of spikes that will typically be one and a half inches in length. As you walk on your lawn, compacted soil is loosened. This allows water to more easily reach the root system.
In some of my recent articles, I have written about my family's move to a different home and the work that we are doing to get the house in the state that we want it in. Well, the lawn is one of those things that I am currently planning for. The soil is very compacted and aeration will be required to loosen it. There are a number of weeds that I will need to attack and stomp out. I need to do fertilization and also need to sow some new seed. This is a lot of work and properly aerating the soil will make the rest of my tasks go easier. I plan to rent and aerator to do my initial spring aeration. After that, I will continue to aerate the soil with my aerator shoes.
I have a self propelled push mower, so I will be walking the yard to mow every week anyway. Why not aerate the soil while I'm mowing?

Tight, compacted soil can choke your lawn from much needed oxygen and moisture. We all want our lawns to look green and healthy, and proper soil aeration is important for a healthy lawn.
Lawn aeration involves making holes in the lawn either by pushing a rod or spike into it, or by extracting a plug of soil which is called coring. Coring requires the use of a lawn aeration machine that can often be rented from a local hardware store. Aeration by spike or rod can be done easily by using a set of aerator shoes.
By aerating your soil, you will get the following benefits for your lawn and its root system:
- Soil that is tight and compacted can be loosened, allowing the root system to grow.
- Aeration helps to break up thatch in your lawn.
- Water is able to penetrate the soil more easily, allowing it to reach your lawn's root system more easily.
- Fertilizer and nutrients can reach the root system more easily allowing your grass to get the nutrients it needs.
- Oxygen is able to get to the roots more easily allowing the soil to breathe.
